Hello Chris, how long does it take from start to finish to accomplish one of these illustrations? I know you do rough work and then have to make the models etc and then arrange them and then and then...it must take yonks!
I've only just started to get some kind of workflow together. I used to use a combination of either watercolour, atge sets or digital as backdrops. Now I'm using digital exclusively.
The last few images took far too long as I had to create digital backgrounds from scratch. I'm hoping to build uoi a library of scenes so i can concentrate on the actual models.
Normally a model takes about a day. I would photograph a number of models on another day. The backdrop could take anything from a day to a week, as there is the modelling stage, texturing, lighting, camera setups etc.
Then comes the cutting out and cleaning up of the model in Photoshop and the compositing of the model against the backdrops. This often means going to and fro between Photoshop and the 3D application until I have managed to match the lighting, angles and perspective.
We thought we would try having a GCI Artists blog and have our own exclusive artists' community. All GCI artists are welcome to join in and add pieces of artwork for peer review or discuss illustration problems and solutions etc. Obviously we'll need to see how it develops and whether its purpose needs refining but I guess until we start using it we won't know what we want from it. This blog is visible to everyone who visits the GCI website so you may wish to bear that in mind. So over to you ladies and gentlemen...
This blog is open to all GCI artists so if you would like to contribute or need any assistance using this blog, please contact Duncan who will do his best to get you up and running.

So in short around 3-7 days per image:¬)
oooh, complicated but it sounds like a quick turnaround from start to finish considering all that's involved with each picture. Keep it up fella!
